just got back to my blog after what 3 months?! eish very bad for blogger standards. however noticed a trend around that is really disturbing. Well, probably disturbing is a strong word ---lets rather says its anti-progressive.
I drove to Airport Junction & Sebele Centre to purchase a rake by Builders Warehouse. I like the place because its refreshing, out there and of course new to the mall scene. I bet asset management outfits are happy since income is going to literally gush in, as well as bank, all that interest income from bonds! Wow! I would be doing an Irish River dance now. Also consumers cant wait to spend, spend and spend whilst retailers are smirking and rubbing their hands in glee.
Among this merchandising, give and take, buy and sell, laybye and credit there is one concern though. Do the malls in Botswana consult one architect? Why no underground parking to save space? Why no multistory- car parks? Is it against council bye-laws? Or is our soil not strong enough? The only mall that tried to capture multistory storey is Riverwalk, and oh Fairgrounds. Underground parking is done numerously in office lots and so forth. Why not in our malls assuming thats where people hang out to eat, meet, shop, chill, watch movies and get cash?
I am really concerned probably if someone could explain that to me then maybe yes I will try and understand. And who said malls have to be box shaped ? what happened to organic designs? I dont know
We need to innovate, break the rules , push the boundaries and go beyond the norm. That's when we can think outside the box in order to progress as a nation. Repeating same things stifles development and in the words of Einstein: "insanity is repeating same thing all over and expecting different results". Lets get out there do things that are non-conventional.
