Introspecting

Just completed a very brilliant book by Elias Aboujaoude - Virtually you. I usually read books very fast however absorbing every single little thing that the book has to offer. Now this particular book took me back to the time when I read Robert Greene's - The 33 Strategies of War,  taking time to absorb it in.

The book dissects the behavioral patterns that are conjured by our online profiles and/or avatars - no pun intended to Second Life or James Camerons' AVATAR.  I was especially enticed by the part where he talks about how people exhibit this medieval demeanor online through brash comments yet when facing reality they recede into their shells.

Now, as much as social networks have done a great deal in 'connecting people', we have to be careful of their effect on us. Having notifications all over the place is one thing, but checking your profile every thirty mins is just not on. Most people don't know why they are on Facebook, when someone asks I say -- well its free marketing tool for my services and they have done a s'well job on the 'Page App'. As much as there are old friends to be met, it really does not make sense to have 4996 friends since the possibility of keeping in touch with  all of them is what, 100/4996?

I dont want to say more get the book at amazon.com or purchase it from your nearest bookstore ---- take care...
