...social media has taken the world by storm, literally. Facebook usage has exponetially increased to numbers that are beyond comprehension. Observers estimate that by 2014 Facebook users would have jumped above 1,000,000,000. 1 billion users. That is like 1/7th of the worlds population. That is 75% of China's population. That is Botswana's population multiplied five-fold. Within these statistics there are interesting facts and figures that make Facebook the wonder that it is:
A recent article about a survey posted on The Botswana Advertiser show that most US companies (95% to be exact), base their recruitment by profiling the Facebook accounts. Those who posted regularly about the carnal encounters and massive inebierations received negative reviews. The most discerning issue is coming across a profile picture of someone in their lingerie (not even underwear) and naming a prominent organisation as their employer. Very sad indeed, and in the actions of comments posted : #smh (shaking my head).
This issue of privacy is not really privy as the daily activities are posted in and out. Those who post: 'going away for holidays' risk finding an empty house as they have literally told the whole world they are not available.
So in a nutshell as so much as the social media has shaped how live our lives its also crucial to note the risks, dangers and the cons that come with it. Great for connecting friends...but only if you are prepared to have your life out in the open
